AMERICAN STYLE BELLY DANCE

A feminine, ecstatic, sensuous, fun, colorful, exciting, interesting, invigorating, mood elevating, healing dance!  Dance the Dance of Life!

Belly dancing is an ancient form of dance, having roots in all ancient cultures from the orient to India to the mid-East.  Belly Dancing was never intended only for men's entertainment. This dance is a way for women to entertain themselves and others, an artistic expression and a powerful way to stay in shape mentally and physically.  Throughout history, this ritualized expression has usually been performed for other women--generally during fertility rites or parties preparing a young woman for marriage.

This dance concentrates on isolating the rib cage, hips and arms independently and then weaving these movements into feminine and flowing patterns.  These movements require patience and practice to master, but some of the movements will just come naturally.  You will have so much fun learning these undulations, shimmies, hip thrusts, and steps right along with other women in the class.  Belly dancing is not only mesmerizing and fascinating but an amazing workout that tones your arms, hips, thighs abdomen and buttocks.  You will be practicing the ancient and mysterious movements that you will only learn in a belly dance class.

Belly dance costumes are colorful, sparkling with gold, silver, gemstones, and beads.  They are flowing garments, accented with flowing scarves and veils.
  Many women are initially drawn to belly dance just for the costuming, beautiful veils and exotic music.  They always get much more!  All classes are four weeks long and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:45 - 7:45 p.m.
