Easy Does it Yoga
- Yoga for Seniors and Beginners
|
|
This class is designed for anyone, but especially the very
beginner or for senior citizens.
It is yoga with the support of a chair or the
wall. Using
these supports, you can improve your balance; strengthen and gain flexibility in
the legs, arms and back; and improve circulation and digestion all with
confidence and security. It is
a class which requires effort but within each individual’s
ability. You
will learn the basic adjustments and other techniques for each yoga posture.
This class is ideal for beginners, those suffering from arthritis,
osteoporosis, chronic back or neck pain, sleep disorders, high blood pressure (treated
by medication) and diabetes.
This class, like any other yoga class, increases mental focus
and decreases stress.

Yoga for the Very
Beginner
|
|
This class teaches the foundation of a safe and effective
yoga practice. You will
explore your body using adjustments and subtle movements given by the instructor.
This exploration gives you a keen understanding of the unique needs of your
body. This is a physically active class and you will learn technique safely as
you go. Basic
foundational techniques of yoga keep your practice safe, progressive and
inspirational.
In beginner yoga, you learn standing poses, very gentle
inversions, back bends, forward bends, twists and good posture seated and
standing. You also will learn yoga breathing techniques, alignment of the
joints and spine, relaxation techniques, deep body awareness and so much
more. This class is a well rounded sequence and opens the joints
in every direction with a relaxed flow. For some, this is the perfect class and
they do not wish to move on to anything more intense. You
can expect individual attention in this class It is
possible to start in one of the other classes, if this time does not fit your
schedule. Just talk to Connie for approval.
"To truly learn yoga, you must slow down almost to a complete
stop and just observe and then you slowly begin to move with the breath as you
experience your body like never before. Slowly you move toward the pose with
the pace of a slow turtle. The mind is then stilled. This is yoga."

Beginner Yoga II
|
|
After you have learned a keen body awareness and
have opened the back, hips and shoulders in Beginner Yoga you are ready for
Beginner II yoga. These classes include yoga flow (vinyasas) and upward and downward dog sequence, which makes them more cardiovascular. After
vinyasa yoga we will hold and observe each pose individually. These classes
include deeper work on all of the traditional yoga postures, repetitious sun
salutations, and inversions such as working toward headstands and handstands (depending on each
individual's ability). Doing just the preliminary poses for headstands
is a great practice in itself. You may
start in this class if the beginner class time does not fit your schedule with
previous approval. You will just have to spend more time observing at first rather
than doing so much.
"An advanced yogi is one with attunement to
their body and clear mental focus, not someone who is super flexible or strong."

Intermediate Yoga
|
|
These classes include
more sun salutations, deeper openings of the shoulders, hips and back and moves
at a slightly faster pace. These classes include work toward hand stand, shoulder stand
and head stand and/or the full pose. As always, I will review basic technique
in each pose constantly reminding you to focus on what is happening in your
body while in the poses. Intermediate Yoga, as in all of my classes, is sprinkled with
yoga philosophy and stories so you will gain a well rounded view of what yoga
truly is.
